Campbell Island 2001
Campbell Island in the NZ Sub Antarctic is some 700kms south of mainland NZ and at 11300 hectares was a quantum step from any previous eradication project attempted.
The distance from support and the sheer size of the island, made it major challenge.
The successful ‘single application’ treatments of Putauhina and Raratoka meant that it feasible to eradicate rats during the winter when available food was limited.
A single application of 6kg/ha was applied in July 2001.
