Coal Island (Te Puki Hereka) 2008
Coal Island lies at the entrance to the southern-most fiord in Fiordland.
A project to eradicate a number of invasive species was carried out by a consortium comprising of the NZ Department of Conservation and a private conservation trust – South West NZ Conservation Trust.
Stoats and red deer were first removed then an operation in July 2008 aerially distributed bait to eradicate mice.
Two applications of 10kg/ha were applied.
